New GMI Chair – Robert Parton

The Global Marina Institute (GMI) is proud to announce the appointment of Robert Parton as its new Chair, representing British Marine on the GMI Steering Group.

Robert is the owner and Managing Director of Aqueduct Marina, an Inland marina and boat yard in Cheshire. The marina was opened in 2009 and now employs 35 people across the boat yard, marina, caravan site, café and brokerage. He is currently sitting on three of the British Marine association committees and the British Marine President.

In accepting the role, Robert said:

“I was delighted to be asked to join the Global Marina Institute (GMI) steering board and take over the role of Chair on behalf of British Marine. Attending the Advanced Marina Managers course and becoming a Certified Marina Manager shortly afterwards was one of my best development experiences that continues to help me in my marina management. Going forward, I believe the network of CMMs, CMPs and CMOs around the world has huge knowledge and experience that can be tapped into. I hope to be able to support the GMI in promoting and developing the marina management training.”

The Global Marina Institute, a joint initiative between British Marine and the Marina Industries Association (MIA), supports the professional development of marina personnel around the world through internationally recognised training and certification.

Robert succeeds Bruce Birtwistle, whose tenure as Chair has seen the GMI further expand its global reach and continue to set the benchmark for marina training standards. The GMI Board extends its gratitude to Bruce for his dedication and leadership.

With Robert Parton now at the helm, GMI is poised to continue its mission of fostering excellence and knowledge-sharing across the international marina community.
