Security Notice: Phishing Attempt Using the Likeness of GMI Chair Robert Parton
The Global Marina Institute (GMI) has recently become aware of a phishing attempt in which an individual has fraudulently used the name and likeness of GMI Chair Robert Parton.
We would like to remind all members, stakeholders, and industry colleagues to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited emails, messages, or requests that appear to come from GMI representatives, board members, or other trusted contacts.
Phishing attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and may use familiar names, logos, and professional profiles to appear legitimate. Before responding to any unexpected request, particularly those involving payments, sensitive information, gift cards, or urgent actions, we encourage recipients to verify the communication through an alternative and trusted channel.
If you receive a message that you believe may be fraudulent:
- Do not click on any links or open attachments.
- Do not provide personal, financial, or organisational information.
- Verify the sender through a known contact method.
- Report the message to your IT team or relevant security contact.
- Delete the message once it has been reported.
GMI takes these matters seriously and will continue to monitor and address any attempts to misuse the identities of our board members, staff, or partners.
Thank you for your vigilance and support in helping to protect our community from cyber threats.
