Alberto Sonino, CMM
Vento di VeneziaBiography
A native Venetian and former competitive sailor, Alberto’s vision has been to transform the abandoned and neglected Certosa into a hub of sustainability, culture, and nautical activity. Under his leadership, Vento di Venezia has secured the concession of the island from the State, attracted European funding, and launched services such as a shipyard, mooring facilities, ecological energy systems, hospitality, and public green spaces.
Alberto has been active in promoting sustainability as a guiding principle of the project. He has overseen the installation of a large solar energy plant on the island (reportedly the largest in Venice), and has pushed for high environmental standards, including ISO certifications and adherence to “Do No Significant Harm” principles in design and operations. Under his stewardship, the Venezia Certosa Marina has earned recognition: it is the only tourist marina in the city of Venice to receive the Blue Flag, a testament to the environmental standards, management quality, and services offered. In 2022, the marina also won the Blue Marina Award, further validating Sonino’s efforts in innovation, sustainability, safety, and guest hospitality. He is a Certified Marina Manager (CMM), listed in the Global Marina Institute directory under Vento di Venezia.
