A new Chairman has been appointed to the Global Marina Institute (GMI) at the annual meeting of GMI held during METS in Amsterdam. GMI is responsible for the oversight of marina education, training and certification of marina personnel administered globally through the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and British Marine (BM).
For the past three years John Hogan CMP from Australia has held the position of independent GMI Chairman. At the meeting held 18 November the position of Chairman was formally transferred to Tony Browne CMM from Montenegro.
Under the leadership of John Hogan much has been achieved including re-establishing cooperation with Association of Marina Associations (AMI) in the USA, a review and upgrade of GMI course content and cementing the Certified Marina Professional (CMP) as a recognised and valued certification. John Hogan said “GMI has an important role to build our industry professionalism and it has been very rewarding three years.”
Tony Browne has been the most recent Chairman of the BM CMM/CMP’s group and has 10 years senior marina industry experience. He is the Marina Director at the 5 Gold Anchor Platinum Porto Montenegro Marina. Tony gave thanks to the work of John Hogan and said he looked forward to increasing the awareness and perceived value of GMI courses and the CMM and CMP certifications.
The next GMI course will be held this December in Dubai. The Advanced Marina Management course has 10 enrolments with participants coming from five different countries.
