The Global Marina Institute (GMI) was established in 2011 by founding partners British Marine and the Marina Industry Association (MIA) in Australia.
The key objectives of GMI are to provide oversight of and add value to the marina industry career pathway. The pathway includes the intermediate and advanced marina management courses (IMM and AMM) and the certification program including continuing professional development for certified marina operators, managers and professionals (CMO, CMM and CMP).
The current GMI Advisory Board is headed up by Chairman Tony Browne CMM, Marina Director at Porto Montenegro Marina. Tony was the previous British Marine certified member representative on the Board and in 2019 replaced John Hogan CMP, CEO Superior Jetties and MIA Director who was the Chairman from 2016-2019. John Hogan continues as a member of the Advisory Board. The current Board member representing British Marine certified members is Tony Dye CMM. Tony is the Chairman of the British Marine Certified Members Group and the lead Global Gold Anchor Assessor for The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA). The other two British Marine Board representatives are Blue Davies, Head of Training at British Marine and Jon White, General Manager TYHA.
Representing MIA certified members on the GMI is Clemens Overdijk CMM, Marina Manager at Sydney Superyacht Marina and Chairman of the MIA Education Committee. The other MIA representatives on the GMI Board are John Spragg Hon CMP, President Australasia and Middle East,Bellingham Marine & MIA Vice Chairman and Colin Bransgrove, MIA CEO. The other Advisory Board members are Farrokh Golchin, M.D., StatConn LLC and representing the Middle East, Jean-Michel Gaigné CMM from France and representing the ICOMIA Marina Group, Marieke van Peer CMM, Peer Consulting & Management representing the Association of Marina Industries (North America) and Carol Fulford, Editorial Director, Marina World.
GMI meets two times a year; online in June and each November at METS in Amsterdam where the Board meeting is followed by a half-day certified members meeting attended by CMMs and CMPs from across the globe.
